The London Photo Show is passionate about the power of photography to tell stories, provide a creative outlet and grow the confidence of people who exhibit their work. For these reasons, we’ve partnered with the charity PhotoVoice who will be taking one of the spaces at the 2017 Show.
PhotoVoice is a charity that uses photography to bring about positive social change. Their vision is for a world in which everybody has the opportunity to represent themselves and tell their own story.
PhotoVoice work across the world to build skills in underrepresented communities, using innovative participatory photography and digital storytelling methods.
These skills enable communities to represent themselves, share their own perspectives, raise awareness of their experiences, and advocate for change. Since being established as a charity in 2003, PhotoVoice has worked in over thirty-five countries on seventy-three different projects. Our projects have worked on issues such as climate change, HIV, trafficking, sexual exploitation and disability amongst others, all using the power of photography to help communicate ideas and perspectives that address these issues.
PhotoVoice run a bi-monthly photography competition in partnership with Professional Photography magazine. Each competition theme or brief is inspired by one of their participants images and an international awareness day. At the London Photo Show in October 2017, PhotoVoice will display images that inspired each competition theme and the wining images.
