Steve Garratt

13/08/2018 By Helen Chapman Leave a Comment

Steve Garratt is interested in making photographs of a variety of subjects (except weddings!) and, having taken part in a very thought provoking week long workshop 18 months ago, has been concentrating on projects based work.

Steve has produced a few small handmade books which consist of just a few photographs up to about 20.

Steve find the procedure of printing, then cutting, folding and sewing the book involves so many more thought processes really liberating and makes him think about his photos a bit differently. Other things such as sequencing and size come into play besides just visual appeal.

The photos here of the Victorian explorer Sir Richard Francis Burton’s tomb had languished on Steve’s computer for some time before the idea of combining them with quotations from Burton’s books occurred to him. Steve brought them all together as a small book or in this case a small number of photos in one space.
