In August 2014, I was offered a chance to combine my passion for animals, education and photography by leading workshops at The Big Cat Sanctuary, Smarden, Kent. I am now Lead Photographer and Head of Photography Workshops. I organise bookings, throughout the year, every day of the week. I work closely with our amazing Keepers and I have built up a great team of photographers with Chris Spurr and Sarah Medway. We are always incredibly busy.

From my research of Asian & African cultures and the more recent attempts to refocus objectives towards the conservation of species, I find working at BCS – where the mission is to “be recognised and respected as one of the best breeding centres in the world” – immensely rewarding. The Photography workshops; donations and experiences help considerably towards funding, enabling BCS to operate as a ‘Centre of Excellence, dedicated to the captive breeding of critically endangered Big Cats within the EEP’

As a former businessman, my retirement 4 years ago finally allowed me more time to travel and to enjoy my passion for photography.

I do not specialise in any particular genre, but rather enjoy photographing anything which I find interesting. This includes wildlife, landscapes, street photography, macro

photography and much more besides.

My exhibition is titled “Sun, Sea & Sand.”

A collection of photographs taken from my world travels and adventures.

Born with wanderlust, always seeking to know whats over the next hill and around the next corner. I have found myself on the highest passes in the world and into some of the remotest places a human wants to go to, be it Antarctica or the Forest of Dean. I try to capture it from a different perspective, showing its true gritty flavour.

Salvatore Valente, a specialist photographer, is a professional lighting expert, although his specialty is travel and street photography, and his works have garnered more than 80 awards in international competitions such as Survival World Photography Awards (UK), IPA Awards (USA), Prix de la Photographie (France), International Loupe Awards (Australia), International Color Awards (USA), In China Unesco Award 2015. Tokyo international Awards, Moscow photo awards international and more.

In 2019 he was appointed Ambassador of Italian photography in the world,

I studied Fine Art Photography in London, in the 1980’s and have pursued it as a career and a vocation ever since.

Photography has always been, since that time, my primary creative outlet as well as my profession, in a variety of fields ranging from social to forensic work, portraiture to crime scenes.

Personal expression is a vital need, and I work continuously on self funded projects, primarily exploring romantic expressionism. Exhibiting is a vital tool in communicating work to a wider audience and I have found the dialogue vital in bridging the work , created in relative solitude, with the world outside.

Photography has been my hobby since I was a teenager. It became a serious passion when I moved back to my home in the Bernese Alps, where I had grown up as a child. At the same time, I also discovered mountaineering and have been led to the top of each one of the local peaks and far beyond, in all seasons, on foot and on skis, by my mountain guide and trusted friend. After each summit, I became more awed with nature.

I am therefore mostly a nature, wildlife and landscape photographer but enjoy dabbling in portraiture and product photography as well. I use a Canon 5D Mark IV, a Sony RX100 Mark 6, GoPros and a Mavick 2 drone and an iPhone 11 Pro but am interested in all sorts of gear and a variety of photo apps.

My very first memories of my developing interest in photography began at an early age when I became a proud owner of my first camera- a Kodak Brownie Cresta roll film, taking 12 black & white exposures 2″ x 2″ in size! I had no idea then on how photography was destined to progress throughout my life.

In my late teens, I built my own photographic darkroom where I was able to process my own black & white films as well as larger prints, before later progressing into colour processing.

My interest started back in the mid 60’s as a teenager in the days of 35mm film cameras. Going to Art College to study architecture I took advantage of the college’s darkroom and other facilities to learn more about photography.  Since retirement from architecture four years ago I have been able to devote more time to photography.  I am a member of my local Photographic Society, a member of Photocrowd and contributor to Alamy stock library.  I am a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society.

Hugh has been passionate about photography for many many years, still occassionallty using Black and White film on his old “127 Rolli” but now mainly digital.
Hugh has been been capturing memories from both around the world and closer to home. Travel photography and studio work are Hugh’s passions and as with most photographers / artists, he is forever trying to find that elusive shot.
