Michael Bobb

Based in South East London, Michael Bobb’s life in photography started with a holiday to Amsterdam in the Netherlands using his brother’s manual SLR 35mm film camera. On Michael’s return he had the film developed and printed. When he showed the results to my work colleagues they said that he has, “an eye for photography”.

In the past Michael has used DSLRs, but now he is looking to go mirror-less in the future.

This passion of photography grew steadily and Michael has studied:

  • Art
  • Art & Design
  • Photography
  • Photomedia

Rik Ward

For 15 years Rik Ward worked as a freelance illustrator based in London. Today he tutors older adults in Art and Computing. In recent years Rik has been a mixed media artist and he took up photography in 2014. As someone who loves to experiment, Rik ended up creating innovative composite images quite by accident. Just a few of his efforts to develop this are exhibited here.

All Rik’s images are created from at least two photos. The selection and blending of images using his innovative technique and thousands of photos is like panning for gold – patiently searching for that one nugget of a combination that ‘works’ and makes all the effort worthwhile. Rik prefers to call his work ‘photo art’ as opposed to ‘digital art’. He doesn’t add digitally created objects, colours or textures; what you see is in the original photos and blended via various software settings.

Sioux Gijzen

Sioux Gijzen has always had itchy feet and been a bit of a wanderer. Getting a bicycle at age 10, gave Sioux’s beloved Mom more than her fair share of grey hairs. She never knew where Sioux was and generally breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of the bike lying in the yard – it meant she was safely home.

Having had an interest in photography for many years, Sioux has progressed from a cheap film camera at age 11, to a Canon DSLR at age 50++.

Sioux grew up and had a family of her own, and while gently steering her children along life’s paths, preparing them for their own journeys, her feet were kept firmly in one place. Now that they are all grown and carving their own niche in the world, Sioux feels it’s time for her!

Kim Gittoes

Kim Gittoes has a passion for beauty, and for fascinating sights.

There is more to see in the world around us than we choose to see. Photography allows us all to really see what’s there, right in front of us. From being able to examine a moment in time in the landscape, to the universes of life in nature.

Kim’s photography journey began five years ago and she has hardly put her camera down since. Her photos document her travels around London, the world and her back garden.

Kim is constantly amazed at what a photo can show of the world.

Geraint Roberts

Geraint Roberts is a London-based, freelance photographer and re-toucher.

His main photographic interests are portraiture and architecture. These interests were further developed while studying for his Higher National Diploma at Tandem College in Shoreditch, London (2016 – 2018) which provided him with a solid technical base for his commissioned and personal work. He believes photography is a blend of craft, science and art.

Geraint’s interest in photographing people has been shaped by his experiences working in mental health and addiction services as well as using these services himself. Every face has its story. We intimate things about a person’s character when we pass them in the street or sit next to them on the tube. The nature of the photograph says something about the relationship of photographer to subject, with the camera a conduit for the relationship.

John Patterson

This year, John Patterson’s entry is a joint venture with his good friend Joseph Prathul, Anthropologist and photographer.

Giving an in-site into their 1000 mile road trip in the northern Indian states of Kashmir and Ladakh, where they traveled on public transport over the highest motorable passes in the world and visited some of the remotest valleys in the Himalayas. Meeting the nomadic shepherds and peoples of the highlands and staying among them in simple accommodation.

Their three week tour took John and Joseph from Srinagar via Kargill onto Leh where they base themselves and traveled north into the valleys at the China boarder. On leaving Leh the duo came south into Shimla and Delhi where they parted company, Joseph heading for his home town of Pondicherry in Kerala and John back to Kent.
