I have been taking photos for over forty years and take images of subjects that attract my eye, be it landscape, travel, family, or detail. I always strive to find a different take on a photo, but only started with Street photography after seeing the Streetsnappers/Urban Photographers Club group posts on Facebook at the start of 2020 and I have been improving my Street images ever since. A first zine was published after a Street photo workshop in Venice, but it certainly won’t be the last zine I put together.

Jovis Leigh Howieson

Jovis is originally from Singapore and now calls London home.

Photography changed her life when she bought a camera in 2018 for the better in so many ways – sounds clichéd but it’s true. It has helped her become who she is today, opened up numerous possibilities and given her exciting, adventurous experiences.

Jovis loves travelling and is always planning her trips to coincide with her photography projects. She is always searching for extraordinary people and places to tell their stories. She feels fortunate to have found photography and does not take it for granted but feels that it’s a miracle and this little quote is a reminder to appreciate the art.

I’m an amateur photographer from Argentina who has been living in London for the past 11 years.
I discovered street photography thanks to my broad curiosity towards the “extraordinary of ordinary life”.
I could spend hours sitting on a bench watching life unfolding around me in some sort of hypnotic and mindful observation.
It was one day while observing a very simple but touching scene of a bunch of construction workers resting at the back of a lorry, probably returning from a long day at work, that I decided I wanted to photograph those flitting moments.
So I borrowed my sister’s Pentax T30 and embarked myself on a journey of discovery and exploration.
For the past 11 years London has been my playground and the place where I can disappear in the crowd. I believe that the images I photograph are a mix of what I see with my eyes and all that extra information that we unconsciously grasp but not necessarily consciously observe at that particular moment. The resulting composition is reality and photography helps me to understand it.

I am a Sussex based photographer, living between the Ashdown Forest, the South Downs and the coast. My aim is to create intuitive images which reflect my ongoing fascination with both the natural and built world and our emotional and physical connection with it.

Time is unseen, but its rhythms are felt and seen through the changes within and around us. I am fascinated by the idea that time is non-linear, our present moments always influenced by past shadows and future possibilities.

My work leans towards the abstract, using the camera as a brush to move beyond the boundaries of conventional representation. As form dissolves into abstraction the photograph represents not only my own intent but can also become a mirror reflecting the viewers own emotions, experiences, and memories.

Susi Petherick

I am a London and Brighton based photographer who loves nothing better than being out and about with her camera. My roots and first love are for all things black and white but over the last few years I have relished learning about and experimenting with multiple exposures, ICM and all manner of creative and expressionist photography.
The images shown at this exhibition are abstract multiple exposures. I hope you enjoy them.

I had a camera in my hands, since I was fifteen years old, and never left home without, even down to the local shop for a litre of milk. Always had a passion for photography, especially for portraiture, and recently being inspired to move my creativity towards fine art styling for my portraiture imagery.

A graduate from Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London.

My work has been shown in London, Cambridge, Milan, and Spain. Having recently been shortlisted for the ‘Paris Photo Prize’, my work will also been shown in France at the beginning of November 2023.

The current project, ‘Written on Skin’ evolved as a response to COVID and current global disharmony. Signs that humankind has yet to appreciate the importance of compassion and regard for all of life.

Words have been written on the skin as slogans to signify the connection that we all ultimately share, something that people can feel removed from when they prioritise money and technology. How might things change if we prioritised kindness and compassion? The project explores the one thing that is at the core of our very essence …LOVE.

My story
I have worked as a professional photographer for 22 years. I began my career photographing musicians and bands in the 2000s. Later I moved on to portraiture, architectural photography, then later still, horses and dogs.

A year ago I began to take my camera on walks with my one eyed spaniel. On one of these mornings my new macro lens was attached to camera, ready for a shoot later that day. Lying on in the dewey grass verge at 7am watching the drops of water fall from a petal down into the shadows, I wondered if I might have found my zen.

I’m deeply passionate about wildlife and nature photography, with a special affinity for
urban foxes. Growing up in the Northumberland countryside I sadly never saw a fox.
However, my fascination with these creatures persisted. It wasn’t until I moved to London
that I had my first encounter with an urban fox.

My photographic journey began in the world of photojournalism. My work focused on
human and animal rights. I documented various social campaigns, demonstrations, political
and royal engagements. Following this, I decided to focus on what I felt deeply passionate
about, and started spending long hours daily, observing foxes in their natural urban habitat,
learning about their behaviour, personalities and their social interactions with each other
and humans.

35 years ago my father gifted me a point and click Olympus film camera and left me to it. Instead of using my head or books and devoid of the undiscovered internet I relied purely on my eyes and feelings. I began to look! I stopped and really focussed on the little things. A colour, a texture, a mood, a smile, an atmosphere and anything else that made me stop and think, or should I say feel?

I discovered another world. One which allowed me to breath and take stock. One that ignited my creativity. Opportunities to relax and slow down soon became my escape from a busy world. Photography became my therapy.
